The gimmick doesnt really do anything, apart from changing the cards name and putting a little picture of the trainer in the corner, but its still something a bit different to collect that isnt an EX or a pricey chase card

Unfortunately for them, you can decide to slap it on the field in defense position to prevent them from attacking with it the same turn

While you can use basically any card as your commander still (except for a few choice powerhouses), some are going to be a bit more fun than others

But if you station it enough to become a creature, it will have summoning sickness if it came under your control that turn
