Here I take it for a (very wonderful and empathetic) elephant being ridden

combined with the crusty white interiors

and love his little cap and crossed ankles dangling under the table

(And the red of her coral necklace for me only advances that sense of devilishness!) I admire lots of fine early 19th century portrait miniatures, but of course it would be a very very naive one like this that would compel me to bring it home. I think she's got a whole lot of life and spirit in her, and a radiance
